I usually judge the importance of a holiday based on the kind of delicious treats that will be present. Thanksgiving is of course the dessert heavy holiday. You can always expect pies and cakes to be present for at least a few weeks after this day has passed -- my french professor love just went running past my office, literally running -- and these heavy desserts often grow old. At christmas, I look forward to chocolate covered cherries. I usually grow tired of them, but only because I have eaten my weight in them.
However, this time of year the most dangerous temptation for me arrives in stores. It is the Cadbury Bunny. As soon as I see Easter grass, I know that the Cadbury Cream Egg is right aound the corner. Brandi has her organic raspberry chocolate, Kirsten has Cool Ranch Dorito's, and the last time I checked, Malinda has her Cake Batter Milk Shake. For me, I have the Cadbury Cream Egg. If you have not tried one, I reccommend that you avoid them at all costs. That is, if you value your waistline. It is no wonder that the eggs appear this time of year. They are the second easter miracle. I say WWJE (What Would Jesus Eat): Cadbury creme Eggs of course. Hopefully, I can restrain myself this year. It helps me to say to myself that I should not waste the hour I spend at the gym every morning by eating an egg, but that may not be enough to deter an egg binge. I am not good at avoiding temptation, whether it be an egg or a bad boy, I seem to have no self-restraint. What is your weakness and how do you keep yourself fom overindulging in the things you love but know are bad for you?
In other equally important news, my interesting friend Malinda has started a blog. I am sure she will shock you with funny and insightful commentaries. Visit her at http://underthetefloncouch.typepad.com/.

I like how you ask us how we "keep from overindulging in these things," as if any of us, your friends, actually do this "keep ourselves from" bit. Let's face it, we're feasters! My tummy told me the other day that it doesn't like to be flat, and by god, who am I to ignore my body? That said, I enjoy those little Cadbury mini eggs (b/c of their cute little speckles), traditional Cadbury egss, and of course, the caramel ones...mmmm. In other goodness, and in no particular order, I enjoy trailer trash tea (1lb. of sugar/cup), sweetened condensed milk, and reduced fat cheez-its (simply b/c they don't they don't leave your fingers as greasy so you can eat while studying, working, etc.). And thank you for the post, dear.
I certainly did not ask that you give me anymore ideas for sugar filled goodness. I completely agree on condensed milk, but only after it has been in the freezer for about 20 minutes.
Thanks for the shout out. As soon as I learn how to link you guys to me I will (hint: you need to tell me how to do it.) I, dear Alicia, am on a Dove Dark chocolate kick. It's always been a favorite, but right now, it is the one. I share Brandi's love of the mini egg from Cadbury, but am not to fond of your choice. What is that stuff in the middle? Sorry, I had to say it. Also, French Onion Sun Chips and Sun Dried Tomato Wheat Thins (not as innocent as they sound when you eat the whole bag in a day!) I guess I've been on a salt kick lately! Mmmm cake batter...
Well, I hate Cadbury eggs.... They remind me too much of real eggs, which I despise. But, I must agree with Malinda, Dove Dark Chocolate is heaven, but alas, I cannot find them here. My biggest temptation, and Gerardo can attest to this, is this cream cheese spread we have here that tastes like chicken and red peppers... My god.. I could eat it all day! I also must avoid, at all costs, is Lindt Orange Dark Chocolate.. It's 70% chocolate with pieces of candied orange in it.. Okay, enough of that. I have really been eating healthy lately, so thanks for reminding me of my vices Alicia!! :)
My sweet, sweet loves are rice krispy treats, pumpkin muffins with cream cheese icing that does not come on the muffin, but I put on it after I bring it home and grab my own tub of icing from my refrigerator. I love Oreo cookies with milk, and I love chewy cake (basically brown sugar and flour). I feel really bad now that I have shared.
Very nice of all of you to detail your sweet temptations, but with no strategies for AVOIDING temptation! Thanks Cristy for the description of the cream cheese and I absolutely LOVE orange chocolate.
